Commissioning Service for AMS Executive
This service was prepared by Rev. Kenn Stright
and used with the Presbyterial of Pictou, June 2008.
You are invited to use it
and insert the name of your Presbyterial where applicable.
Jesus said, "All authority in
heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all
nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And
remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age." Living Faith tells
us: “As God sent Christ to us, so Christ sends us into the world. We are here to proclaim Christ in word and deed.”
You have responded to that call in service to the Atlantic Mission
Society, the [Presbyterial] and the local Auxiliaries from which you
come and in which you work and witness. You have responded to the call of God
with the prophet’s words: “Here am I, send me!” And so “We witness to
God in Christ as the Way, the Truth, the Life, and invite others to accept from
him the forgiveness of God.” (Living Faith).
All: We are compelled to share this good news.
In this service to Christ, will
you seek to strengthen and guide the [Presbyterial] as members of the
executive?
I will, God being my helper.
As Jesus taught and preached the gospel, will you tell the
good news of Jesus Christ in word and deed?
I will, God being my helper.
As Jesus reached out to heal
and to love, will you reach out in compassion?
I will, God being my helper.
As Jesus took children in his
arms and blessed them, will you nurture the children through your work with
children and youth?
I will, God being my helper.
As Jesus prayed for God's
guidance and strength, will you turn to God for help?
I will, God being my helper.
As Jesus sent 70 disciples out
two by two, will you work with those who serve with you in the mission of the
AMS?
I will, God being my helper.
As Jesus calls this executive,
he also calls each and every one of us. Do you commit yourself to the support of
this executive and the purposes of the Society?
We do, God being our helper.
In light of these commitments,
I commission you to serve God and the church through this ministry.
Thanks
be to God. Amen.
Sovereign
Lord, you have saved us by your grace and have called us to serve you with our
lives, promising to be with us always. Be close to and the other members of the
mission team. Keep them safe, and give them strength and wisdom, compassion and
courage that they may fulfill your will for them. Bind them to you and to each
other with the faith, hope, and love of the gospel, and lead them along your
way. Through Jesus Christ our Lord we pray. Amen.
